Privacy policy
The short version
- The app collects no data. No accounts, adverts, analytics, tracking or in-app purchases. We declare it as "Data Not Collected" on its App Store privacy label.
- This website sets no cookies and uses no analytics, adverts, tracking, sign-ups or forms. Everything on it, including the fonts and pictures, comes from our own site.
- Our host, Cloudflare, sees visitors' IP addresses so it can deliver the pages, and keeps security logs. We don't use them to identify anyone.
- Videos open on YouTube. Nothing from YouTube loads on this site. Once you're on YouTube, YouTube's privacy policy applies.
- If you email us, we use your message only to reply, and delete it within 12 months. If a child writes to us, we send one reply to their grown-up and then delete their email, our reply and the address.
Who we are

Part 1 · The app
What stays on the device
The app saves a few grown-up settings on the device itself: whether theme music is on, whether Pebble's words show on screen, and the "gentle stop" limit. These never leave the device and are deleted when the app is deleted. Series that a grown-up downloads are also stored on the device.
When the app goes online
Series 1 is built into the app and works offline. This version of the app doesn't connect to the internet by itself. Its only link out is "Privacy policy and help", behind the parental gate, which opens this page in the device's web browser. If we add new series later, the app will contact our website, pebblethepangolin.com, to check for them and, when a grown-up chooses, to download one. It sends no personal information, identifiers or usage data with these requests. Like any web request, the device's IP address is visible to our hosting provider, Cloudflare, as described in Part 2.
Children and the app
Pebble is made for children aged 3 to 7. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Settings, downloads and links out of the app sit behind a parental gate that young children can't easily pass. Because the app collects no data, we declare it as "Data Not Collected" on its App Store privacy label.
Part 2 · This website
Visiting the site
This website has no cookies, no analytics, no adverts, no tracking pixels, no sign-ups and no forms, and it stores nothing in your browser. It loads no fonts, scripts or embeds from other companies, so visiting it only connects you to pebblethepangolin.com. That's why there is no cookie banner.
Our host, Cloudflare
The site is hosted by Cloudflare. When you visit, your device's IP address and the usual technical details of a web request (such as the page asked for, the time, and your browser type) pass through Cloudflare so it can deliver the page and protect the site from attacks. Cloudflare may keep this in its own security logs, under Cloudflare's privacy policy. Cloudflare does not publish a fixed period for these logs.
We do not download or keep these logs, and we don't use them to identify anyone, build profiles or track activity. Our Cloudflare dashboard mostly shows totals, such as how many visits the site had in a day. If Cloudflare blocks a suspicious request, it may show us details of that request, such as its IP address and the page asked for. We use these only to keep the site safe. Cloudflare runs a worldwide network, so a request may be handled in a data centre outside the UK. You can read Cloudflare's privacy policy (opens in a new tab).
Videos on YouTube
Our video pictures are simple images stored on our own site. Nothing from YouTube loads here. When you tap a video, it opens on youtube.com in a new tab. From then on you are on YouTube, which may set its own cookies, and YouTube's (Google's) privacy policy (opens in a new tab) applies there.
Our Instagram link is a plain link for grown-ups. Instagram is for ages 13 and up. If you follow it, Instagram's own privacy policy applies there.
If you message us or comment on Instagram, we see your username and what you write. We use it only to reply, and we never ask for children's details there. Instagram's (Meta's) privacy policy applies to the platform.
When you email us
If you email [email protected], we receive your email address, your name if you include it, and what you write. We use it only to reply to you and to help with your question. We don't add you to a mailing list, and we don't share your email with anyone else.
Emails sent to that address arrive in our mailbox with Microsoft (Microsoft Exchange Online). Microsoft stores and handles these emails for us as our processor, under its data protection terms with us. Our mailbox is stored in the UK, but Microsoft and the companies it works with may process emails in other countries, including the United States. When they do, Microsoft uses safeguards approved under UK data protection law. We keep an email conversation for up to 12 months after it ends, so we can follow up if needed, and then delete it.
If a child emails us
This site is for grown-ups to contact us, and we never ask children for their details. If we think a child has written to us, we send one reply, addressed to their grown-up, and then delete their email, our reply and the address. We don't keep or use it for anything else.
Why we can use this information
We handle the small amount of information above because we have a legitimate interest in running a safe, working website and in replying to people who write to us. We never sell information, and we never use it for advertising.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of any information we hold about you (for example, an email you sent), ask us to correct or delete it, or object to how we use it. Email [email protected] and we'll reply within one month. We hold no personal information about app users, so for the app there is nothing for us to access, correct or delete.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, please tell us first. You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk (opens in a new tab).
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top. If we ever wanted to collect more information, we would change the app and this site first and say so clearly here.
